Birmingham City Ordinance for COVID-19 Pandemic Orders to “shelter in place” 3/24/2020
Letter from the General Manager March 24, 2020 Dear Water Works Employees, Tuesday afternoon, Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin issued a 'shelter in place' ordinance which was approved by the City Council that prevents residents of Birmingham from leaving their homes unless it's for essential reasons like work, buying groceries, going to the doctor, or exercising; this goes into effect immediately and will last until April 3rd at 12 a.m. It is important to know that this measure does not pertain to essential utilities, which includes Birmingham Water Works. Please continue the work assignments that are currently put in place by your manager, whether you've been asked to work from home or in the office. As stated before, the uniqueness of our jobs here at BWWB puts us in a position to where we must maintain a 24/7 operation. The continual delivery of clean drinking water to our customers is more critical now than ever. Our community is depending on us, and I'm appreciative that we have the tremendous help of all of you to offer that needed assurance during this trying time. We will continue to update you as more information unfolds. Thank you for all that you do.
